How's this one getting along? Has it been used in some production evironments already? 

What is needed to be starting to use this module for sending out e-mail and what what could be removed from the code once this module is in use?

Perhaps this one warrants setting up a separate git where this module becomes the one used, and the remaining email code throughout the core to be removed ...
