Hmmm  variables.txt.  I don't seem to have a file by that name anywhere on 
my filesystem.  Perhaps a leftover from a prior release?

Note that the foundation demo works without that file being present....

I notice from reading the list archives that most people arrive at 4.8.3 
by upgrading from an old release...  Has anyone tried installing 4.8.3 
from scratch?

W/RT tarball vs. RPM.  On redhat system I try to use rpm's.  It is a 
Redhat OS, and a Redhat app (IC) and RPM is the preferred Redhat 
distribution media...
