First of all I want to thank Gregg A. Fabbri for figuring this out.
I thought that there are a fiew of you who could use this information.
Also Greg found a site that has : Javascript code from
http://www.webreference.com which is a great site to
reference for HTML, Javascript, and CSS.
All was don using Interchange 'UI'
Below is a sample of 'MOUSE_OVER' used in the 'category section of
Interchange'
If this is confusing :-) please see it in action at
http://gw.moonlink.net/cgi-bin/firsttosearch/
Put the following information in Administration/Tables/cat
'imag_prop'
border=0 NAME="imBut1"
'link_template'
$ANCHOR$
This is what I have in my second area on my system (note my root_dir
catalog name is 'firsttosearch')
'imag_prop'
border=0 NAME="imBut2"
'link_template'
$ANCHOR$
Make sure that you change the 'Name="imbut' properties as you add each 'gif'
or 'jpeg' in 'image_prop', and 'link_template'
EG: NAME="imBut1"
NAME="imBut2" etc. etc. etc...
Thank you Greg

Hello,

I have added to show the component_after, but it's putting the component
itself after the template in the HTML.
You can see what I mean at (Stuff would be the component):

Would I need to add a tag in the template to put the Stuff above my

In case anyone else is thinking of doing this, please don't. It is not
allowed. Note that though we, at Akopia, also offer services we don't
post offers to the list. We don't believe in spam.
The only exceptions to commercial postings to the list is in the case
of developed software which specifically *extensively* supports Akopia

Hello,
Just getting started and still reviewing the documentation and
noticed that the title field for the products database in the
construction store wasn't there. Makes it so you can't add a
product yourself to the demo store properly. Anyone know if this is
supposed to be this way?
I would also take it then that you can't add your own fields to the
database and have them in the admin package?

Subject: [ic] Inventory adjustment questions
Hiya,
I'm a new IC user. I've got IC 4.6.1 installed on RH7, Perl 5.6.0, MySQL
3.22.32, DBD::mysql.
The construct demo seems to work dandy, but I ran into three issues that
I'd like to ask about:
1. As a 'customer,' I used the Stock Alerting function with the
out-of-stock Mini-Sledge. As promised, I received an email telling me I'd
be notified when the item came in stock. So then I added stock to the
Mini-Sledge. However, I received no email saying the Mini-Sledge was now
in stock. Is there something I need to setup or admin to make this happen?
2. When I added stock to the Mini-Sledge on the "Inventory: edit item"
page, although the change was applied correctly, the following page gave
me this error at the top:
Sorry, there was an error in processing this form action. Please report
the error or try again later. (You have an error in your SQL syntax near
'= NULL where sku = 'os28073' ' at line 1 )
Now, as I said it did apply the change. Even just hitting "OK" at the
Inventory: edit item page without changing any values produced the error.
3. Whenever IC needs to send an email to a customer, there is an
extremely long wait. I believe this may be because of DNS issues on my
machine. I'd like to use an external SMTP server, but I can't find where
to specify it. I apologize if this is in the docs -- I looked but
couldn't find anything.
Thanks!

Alex,
Aren't you the same one who posted looking for a programmer and concerning sales promotion of your company? Buy your own server.
While possible I can't fathom trying to run any company on someone else's rules. There are plenty of companies that will let you put
your box on their network for very reasonable fees. Your only limit at that point is hardware and bandwidth available. Of course this
also requires someone to act as admin so your personel requirements will go up.
Just my 2 cents worth

Hello all!
I am experiencing the same issue. I am running RH 6.2, IC 4.6.1, and Perl
5.005. Upon examination of the server error log, the error stated was
"premature end of script errors". Normally, in a Perl script, I would start
commenting things out and debugging the script, but since /cgi-bin/construct
is compiled, I can't do that. The docs say "This usually means that your
HTTP server ran out of resources during the execution of the link program."
I can say with some certainty that this is not the issue on my server...
Anyone have any other ideas (apparently this isn't a rare scenario)???
Thanks!

Subject: [ic] Discount ALL_ITEMS - bug ?
Hello All,
I have set up a test store which uses the
[discount ALL_ITEMS] tag to apply a flat percentage
discount across the catalog.
The store is an instance of the "Construct Something"
demo and the [discount ....] tag is on the cart
component in templates/components. The version is
4.6.0.
The problem I have is that when viewing the cart,
the line items are shown un-discounted while the
sub-total reflects the correctly discounted amounts.
I think I have tracked this to some lines in the
sub conditional in Interpolate.pm :
elsif($base eq 'discount') {
$CacheInvalid = 1;
$op =
qq%$Vend::Session->{discount}->{$term}%;
$op = "q{$op}" unless defined $noop;
$op .= qq% $operator $comp%
if defined $comp;
}
The ALL_ITEMS attribute of the discount tag creates
a key value of ALL_ITEMS in the discount hash in the
Session structure. However, the product SKU ($term
above) does not appear in the discount hash and so
the product does not appear to be discounted. Other
parts of the discount code (subs apply_discount and
discount_price) appear to make special allowances
for the ALL_ITEMS case.
Any feedback much appreciated,
Regards,
James Griffiths

Did you try editing the cart component to always display
[discount-price]?

Since the bad old days of MV3, whenever I have encountered this, it has
been an issue of the cgi-bin link file permissions. Telnet into your
server and check the perm's on the link file for your catalog. If they look
like this:
-rwxr-xr-x
try this command at the prompt:
chmod u+s filename
...substitute the name of your link file for filename. Conversely, if the
permissions look like this:
-rwsr-xr-x
try this command at the prompt:
chmod u-s filename
Most of the time this will solve the problem.

I am working with pretty much the standard cart
component from the Construct Something demo. This
as you know has an [if discount [item-code]] tag for
each line item to decide whether to display
[discount-price] or [item-price] for the line item.
I have left this "as is" because I want to refine the
discount later to apply to selected users only -
then the [if discount ..] tag should be handy.
I think the problem is that the [if discount ..]
tag is returning false for all items because of the
bug I suspect in the conditional sub in Interpolate.pm
If there is anything I can do to refine the problem
report, just let me know.

James

I tried this, but to no avail. In fact, just for testing, I chmod 777'ed it

Thanks.

Subject: [ic] Method to change pricing based on size selected
After many hours, I have discovered a way to do pricing based on size. The default interchange demo had a malfunctioning quantity pricing as well, so the changes also reflect that being fixed. I use the default database, and use excel (I'm a newbie!) to modify the products.txt and pricing.txt files to add items.
1) Modify your catalog.cfg CommonAdjust line and AutoModifier and UseModifier settings:
CommonAdjust pricing:sku,q2,q5,q10,q25,q100, ;products:price, ==size:pricing
AutoModifier pricing:sku
UseModifier size
2) I have the following columns for my products.txt file:
sku description title template_page comment display image price wholesale category nontaxable weight size color
gift_cert related featured download dl_type dl_location inactive
If the products has a few different sizes, then specify "S=Small,M=Medium,L=Large" under the size column for the product. If there is only one size, then leave the size field blank.
3) In your pricing.txt file modify the columns to look like:
sku price_group q2 q5 q10 q25 q100 S M L
(sku refers to the product #, price_group should be 1, set q2 etc to the price you want to charge for orders of a quantity of 2, same goes for q5, q10, q25, q100, it is ABSOLUTELY necessary to fill in all the quantity columns with the correct price (not 0). You can set any of the S M L fields to reflect the price added to the base price you define in your products.txt file.
4) Modify your results.html and results_big.html file:
My section of code includes:
That way, the user can select the size of the price before he hits the check out button (in demo you change size after hitting check out button ew).
5) In your /dbconf/default_db file, edit it to look like the following:
Database pricing pricing.txt TAB
Database pricing KEY sku
Database pricing NUMERIC q2
Database pricing NUMERIC q5
Database pricing NUMERIC q10
Database pricing NUMERIC q25
Database pricing NUMERIC q100
Database pricing NUMERIC S
Database pricing NUMERIC M
Database pricing NUMERIC L
Rename your old pricing.gdbm and products.gdbm file. Upload your new products.txt and pricing.txt file. In akopia's admin User Interface, under Administration->Tables->Pricing -> Export, export the pricing file. Do the same for the products file. This will create a new pricing.gdbm and products.gdbm file. Apply changes, and do a interchange --restart. This should activate all changes.
Good luck, and thanks to cursor for his help!

Then just make it:
[if discount [item-code]]
[or discount ALL_ITEMS]
This is just a cart issue -- not a bug. The cart as it is is
not set up to handle ALL_ITEMS. Either edit the cart to remove
the conditional, showing [discount-price] and [discount-subtotal]
always, or add the above.

The construct demo is not set up to do pricing changes by size, that is
why. The only demo that has it installed by default is "simple", which
is available via CVS.
Also, quantity pricing should indeed work on construct, but only when the
user logged in is defined as a dealer.

No. In fact, there isn't even any code to store the user's
information for future reference. All it does is send the email then
forget about you. I have written one implementation of this. It
relies on a new table called "notify_me". When you upload a new
inventory table through the admin ui, it sends out any notifications
as necessary. It's not a perfect solution because of the dependance
on the upload function to trigger the notifications. However, the
real question is "how do you plan to keep the inventory levels in IC
accurate?"
I'm not sure I actually have the code anymore. I need to take a look
around and see if I can come up with a patch against a clean
'construct' demo.

There isn't really any code to handle this. You can search the
archives on in-stock or something. I have developed something that is
fairly rudimentary. As soon as I can, I will post a link to a patch
for the construct demo.

IC relies on whatever mail configuration your server itself has. If
you want your server to use a "smarthost" you will need to configure
your Mail Transport Agent (MTA - sendmail, qmail, etc.) to do that.

Doug,
Why not create a mv script that runs periodically via cron(1) that
scans the "notify_me" table looking for outstanding notifications
then for each item they are interested in, check the products/
inventory tables to see if there's a quantity > zero? This would
eliminate the dependence on the admin ui upload function and
would work no matter how the quantity info was updated.
I have some sample code that does something similar, if you're
interested.

Can the catalogs themselves work like the admin pages? I really like
how I can bring just certain pages forward from the shared admin
directories on a per catalog basis. I would like to do this with the
catalog templates as well. For instance, if I have several catalogs
based on 'barry' I would like to fix bugs in them all by just
correcting the errors in the "source" barry directory rather than
having to fix all the individual catalogs created from barry.

Hmmm...someone has said, that the error.log is empty. Are in this file
no messages about any starting of the Interchange server? No
informations about the start time and so on? Is the Interchange server
running? Have you in your catalog directory a directory like "tmp" and
"session"? If there is no directory "session" or "tmp", you will get the
"internal server error" too. But I'm wondering, because the error.log
will say to you, that there is no directory "session" for example. Maybe
the user and group name of your Interchange, catalogs and cgi directory
is not the same? In some case, if the permissions oft the directory
"etc" in your interchange directory is wrong (look at the user and group
name too), you will get the same "internal server error" too.

Sure. Just define a new TemplateDir. You can have TemplateDir
in your catalog.cfg, too. That way, you can share certain pages and
have certain ones be on a per-catalog basis.
The only downside is you do an extra directory lookup when the
page is not found in the pages/ directory, but that is not too
big of a deal unless you have a super-busy catalog.
Symbolic links are another option.

Im trying to create a multi-page checkout process so that the user enters

&final=no
And the second has:

Everything seems to be working except for the credit card number! On the
confirmation page I pass all the variables (address, phone,

mv_credit_card_number keeps disappearing! :(
I even tried changing the first order profile to "&credit_card standard

Has anyone successfully done confirmation pages? Please help.

As it is supposed to. If you save it in the session to the values hash, it
will be written to disk in the clear. And you don't want that to happen.
You can, if you wish, pass it back with [cgi mv_credit_card_number],
storing it in a hidden variable in the page, but I certainly don't
recommend it. The best thing to do is collect it as a part of the
final step.

Interchange -4.6.1
Using Interchange UI
I have made myself as a test customer. I ordered 27 items. I go to the
customers page in admin and try and delete all the orders. The program asks
to confirm , and I do , but the orders are still there and also in the
/orders dir. AM I doing something incorrect? Also the /tmp dir is getting
very large. I do not want to delete anything out of using 'UI' as I do not
completely know the program yet (maybe .0000001%)
Thanks for any help. IF not I will keep looking in the docs. (by the way
the docs help once you stare working with the program)

Great, thanks! I think Akopia should add this function to its todo list

I apologize for responding with what should be a Linux sysadmin question,
but my impression has been that applications usually have some setting
for this -- otherwise, how would it know whether to use /usr/bin/sendmail
or /usr/local/bin/qmail? Is there some global setting buried in /etc
which tells apps which MTA to use by default?
Thanks!

Maybe this creates too many dependencies, but you could use cron to hit a
page containing the desired functionality with Lynx (included with most
standard distros) or wget (more purposebuilt, but not included with most
distros.)

Subject: [ic] Problems losing session & checkout
Greetings all,
I've been working for several months on a new store and database to replace
an existing commercial web order system that we found lacking. Since this
is my first posting, I'd like to say how impressed I am with the power and
flexibility of Interchange, and express my appreciation for the developers
and the participants on this list.
I originally set things up with 4.5.6 and later updated to 4.6.0. My
project is highly customized and is based on the 'simple' template. I am
using a multi-page checkout which I noticed is no longer available with the
'construct' demo provided with 4.6.0 and 4.6.1.
We finally switched over on New Years Day, and customer orders abruptly
stopped coming in, despite our own testing from various machines with
various browsers which revealed no problems. After an otherwise very busy
weekend with higher than normal traffic, we found it very odd not to have a
single order after 18 hours.
Today we received a number of telephone orders from customers who had
difficulties ordering online. The problems varied. One customer clicked to
order an item and "nothing happened." Another was able to put something in
his basket, but his machine "locked up" when he went to check out, requiring
a reboot. When he came back, the item was still in his cart but again
things locked upon checking out. Yet another customer was able to enter his
billing/shipping address information, but reported that "nothing happened"
when he clicked the 'NEXT ->' button to proceed.
We have since received a small tricking of orders, and I spoke with one
customer who was able to go back in and order online (while I was on the
phone) and found that it worked the next time around. So I'm wondering if
some of the problem has to do with a cookie with session information not
being set correctly, which would tie in with the total lack of problems from
our various machines around here.
The only problem I have been able to duplicate myself is if I disable
cookies and try to check out. Everything is fine until I get to the
multi/final page, at which point you can see the session ID in the URL
changing, and of course the basket is then empty.
Any suggestions as to things to check would be most appreciated.
BTW, the URL for the store is http://store.firmware.com

Subject: [ic] automatic postage for printout?
Hello,
This may be a bit over the horizon, but I would love to be able to generate
electronic postage that could be printed out along with the address info
for each order. This would cut out some currently painful manual steps in
the fulfilment process.
Obviously it would require an interface to the postage or shipping vendor.
Anyone gone down this path before?
Thanks,
- Andrew

Subject: [ic] IC GUI
Hi Steve,
it's very nice to see that such nice thing is coming.
Here is my wishlist :)
1) qt/kde usage, in particular, kwrite for html would be the best
as kwrite is the nicest HTML editor I've ever seen (I've been coding HTML for
almost 8 years now). Also, qt has many nice widgets, nice icons on file
selection dialog, faster redraw, etc. and is GPL-licensed.
2) it would be extremely nice to have spreadsheet-like table editor
(or ms access-like), because there's no GUI tool as far as I know to _quickly_
edit TAB-delimited files (without importing/exporting/etc).

hi,
I have did a brief search of the mailing-list,but with no success since I
had gone through about 30 entries in it ...
I visited the Authorize.net website and I didn't find Mv or IC on the list
of compatible shopping carts.
So if anybody will be kind enough to give me some information on what other
alternatives to the CyberCash Module and how if possible I can integrate
other Credit Card Transactions systems..like World Pay ,etc to
IC..

Do you have the secure server defined in the catalog.cfg file? Do you
have a secure server? Pages switch automagically out of the box. If you
altered the pages compare to the stock ones. Look for secure=

Subject: [ic] New mall functionality diff
This is a diff that will remove two hardcoded limitationa related to the length
of common adjust strings.
At the moment the number of items in a common adjust string is limited to 16 and
total length of each item must not exceed 20.
This patch will allow you to change this with two new config lines in
/etc/interchange.cfg ie.
ComAdjChain 30
ComAdjString 1000
This can be usefull when making large malls over multiple URLs.
To install patch...
locate Vend (on my system its "/usr/lib/interchange/lib").
and do this
cd /usr/lib/interchange/lib
[lib]$ patch -d Vend < Interchange.4.6.1-1-murray.diff
You should see....
murray@handle lib]$ patch -d Vend < Interchange.4.6.1-1-murray.diff
patching file Config.pm
patching file Data.pm
This patch was created on RH7.0 Perl v5.6.0 on Interchange 4.6.1 ( an rpm
install)
If the new values are not set they will revert to there original settings.
To Mike...
Any chance of this making it into 4.6.2?

Thanks for the reply Viktors. Unfortunately at this point #1 is not slated for
inclusion. I am not familiar with the KDE environment but will happily share code
with anyone who wishes to undertake a KDE version. Maybe when I get further along
in releases I can reshape my mind to do it :) It was a thought of mine, I just
simply am not familiar with KDE. Number 2 is a definite yes. In fact hopefully
for the first release as I have the raw code in place now just need some fine
tuning to it. I will look into the HTML editor you speak of. I have all the code
from Bluefish which I am free to use but any other code that might do the job
better is always welcomed.
Again thanks for the interest and have a great day
