Forget that, I missed this part:

Try the postgresql mailing list.  I'm not familiar with OSX error messages, 
but it might be something as simple as not finding the 'createdb' 
command.  In which case, try

whereis createdb

or

updatedb; locate createdb #will take a long time

or, if it's perms/users problem:

su - postgres  #or whatever the user is in OSX, check /etc/passwd
createdb
