I think it is merely a personal preference for weighing your items. If your
items are ordered in quanitities of hundreds you will want to be more exact.
If only several items are ordered at a time, don't worry about being
precise. You can add a 'handling charge' from the Admin area for the weight
of the box and packing material.

I believe several IC versions back Mike Heins once said this feature was not
(presently) functional, not sure if anything has changed in recent versions.
