questions about ic 4.8

1> can someone explain the technology behind interchange using mysql? i know 
perl+modules/dbi/apache... i see that it's a server taking requests via 
apache. the admin page (variables passed) mentions mod_perl? my apache 
doesn't have mod_perl installed? please explain the rudiments of how things 
work, like template language, etc. would building ic into apache, like 
mod_perl make it faster/better?


2> i'm trying to customize the templates, where is the NO_REDHAT_LOGO 
variable stored or changed? i assume changing it would turn off logo2? (i 
could just delete the block or replace the image), changing 1 to 0 or 2  
doesn't affect the logo? please explain what's going on.
