[ic] CVV2 with Interchange

CVV2 is meant for electronic transactions. The theory is a merchant is
trusted [they have us by the cahones is we commit fraud] and the customer is
trusted. The in between part is not. CVV2 is not a failsafe-- Just another
check to lower the risk of fraud. CVV2 is meant to signify the card is
present [in the hands of the person entering the data] in an electronic
transaction. Obviously anyone, like the waiter at a restaurant, can lift
the CVV2 #. I thought you should know this. I didn't want to post it to the
list because I hate flaming! Anyway thats my 2c. I would suggest verifying
my understanding with a cc processor.

Brett Doyle

No. And I don't believe it is intended to be transmitted electronically
on a system connected to the Internet.

As far as I know, it is intended to be passed verbally as a check
that the card number has not been stolen (i.e. the supposed holder
actually has the card in hand). That is why it is not embossed on
the card, so no impression of it goes on the charge slip.
