I promise I will shut up about this after this.

Short answer in httpd.conf: UseCanonicalName on. That gave me what I
wanted. I don't really know why nor do I care. It works!

I leave lines 1809 and 1810 as is in bin/interchange. :-)

I do not have to use mod_rewrite. I could not figure it our anyway since
I am using perl sections to configure apache.
