The message Authorizenet sent out does not apply to ADC Direct Response. If
you look at the message, it has a link to a .pdf file with more information:

Dear Authorize.Net Merchant,

Authorize.Net will begin requiring Merchants who connect to the payment
gateway via WebLink or ADC Relay Response to implement a Referrer URL on
their account, effective May 28, 2002.

[snip]

To help you implement a Referrer URL on your account, we¹ve created a short
document designed to assist your Website¹s technical specialist, Web
developer, or shopping cart provider:
http://www.authorizenet.com/files/referrerURL.pdf. Should you have more
questions about protecting your account, se
e our Security ³Best Practices² White Paper located at
http://www.authorizenet.com/files/securitybestpractices.pdf

If you view the referrerURL.pdf and look at the section regarding ADC Direct
Response you will find more detailed information on setting the account to
Password-Required Mode. BUT NO REFERRER URLS (just to make that clear)

What if I Don¹t Connect to Authorize.Net Using WebLink or ADC Relay
Response?
Referrer URLs apply only to the WebLink and ADC Relay Response connection
methods. Authorize.Net highly recommends (and eventually will require) that
Merchants who process transactions through the ADC Direct Response
connection method implement Password-Required Mode on their account. It is
also recommended that Merchants who process transactions exclusively through
the Virtual Terminal implement Password-Required Mode. Please refer to
http://www.authorizenet.com/files/passwordRequire.pdf for instructions on
setting your account to Password-Required Mode. For information on other
methods for protecting your account, please see our Security ³Best
Practices² White Paper located at:
