jEdit.

  * It's Java but it's rather fast (esp. on Linux).
  * ITL, HTML, and Perl Syntax highlighting (all at once, of course)
  * FTP & CVS modules (upload from your editor)
  * Kitchen Sink

But when on a remote system, it's vi all the way, baby.
