[ic] problems with quantity pricing

Using IC 4.8.6 on Linux (perl 5.6.0)

The item in question is a book, with shipping included in the price, 
but with discounts for multiple books. I worked out an average to apply 
for the various quantity breakdowns (q2, q5, q10...) but when I tried 
to set them, IC barfed if I left the Discount Group unset. So I created 
a group called "Books" and it took the quantity discounts ok.

But going through the site, and "buying" a quantity of books, shows the 
standard price * quantity and no discounts.

Is there some other flag or setting I should set? This is for the 
general public, not for a wholesaler.

Any help would be appreciated.
