it should be listed in the document you reference, and it means
that one should not post like this:

Person 1: "Subject: some weird problem"
Person 2, (technically) in response to
person 1: "Subject: Soem other problem"

If you ever looked at your mailbox using mutt, where threading
works, you immediately get to know what it means (OUCH!).
