At this point in the checkout.html page there is the choice of including 
either 'new_browser_payment' or 'old_browser_payment', and this
choice is made automatically according to info sent by the browser.

As it seems that some browsers are being confused by this, you 
could just force the choice back to 'old_browser_payment', which
does not have any of the code in question. 

Though I have to say that both the button (defaulting to the html
style button rather than the image) and the card fields all show
up correctly here with Mozilla 1.3a.
