I'm also having problems with the newer IC on my Redhat 8 server and the
idea of changing the stock perl doesn't really appeal to me. I set up a
test server running Slackware 9.0. The very latest IC seems very happy
on that box.

Using a stock install of Slackware 9.0, the IC install went flawlessly
and the test catalogs run great. A perl-ectomy on Slackware would be
simple, but it is not even needed because the perl is not non threaded
by default.

Not to start a distro war, but to me Slackware is much more flexible.
And now that there's an "up2date" type utility for Slackware (called
swaret), I have made the decision to migrate.
