"&pound;" is always "£".  The hash symbol (#) doesn't have an entity
name;  It doesn't need one.  The "&pound;" named entity is defined as
"&#163;".

I find that named entities, such as "&pound;" and "&copy;" etc. are
easier to read in HTML source than the numbered equivalents.  I recognise
that other people will have their own preferences, so just use whatever
you're comfortable with.
