Can you give more detail about what the "developer test" entailed? I'm not 
sure what that would have affected.

Probably not directly. The one ending ~ is an editor backup file. If you 
compare the two, you may find recent changes made to catalog.cfg. Try:

diff -u catalog.cfg~ catalog.cfg

to see which lines changed. But the existence of catalog.cfg~ alone should 
not be hurting anything.
