This sounds an awful lot like the user is getting falsely identified as a search engine/robot due to the User-Agent string matching one of the RobotUA patterns, and thus not being assigned a session. I would look at the webserver logs to identify the UA string for the requests in question and compare against the list of known RobotUAs from robots.cfg (or whereever in your installation the RobotUA is defined.). In particular, the Ask toolbar (UA fragment: AskTB) has been known to cause issues.

In any case, there may be patches floating around specifically adjusted for IC 5.2; you could also look at migrating your site to a newer version of IC.

Hello David,

Thankyou very much for your detailed response. No it is
definitely not all who experience this, as we are running a business and
are Western Australia's only growing online store.

It was my gut feeling as you said, but you know it is a lighter burden
when shared, so it is great to hear from someone who knows what they are
talking about.

It may be time for an upgrade to the latest. Any idea what percentage of
browsers present these challenges? I'm looking forward to a pay rise. I
deserve one actually. However if the feedback is anything to go by and
people are honest enough to ring and complain I'm guessing we are
talking less than 1% lost sales.

Here we go. I take off my packing, marketing, managerial, database and
hardware caps and do an upgrade. You can see how long I have postpomed
this event.

Regards,

Frank Reitzenstein
