RE: [mv] MySQL setup tutorial??

Hi Keith,

The answer to your question is, it depends...

If you are running MV v4.04 and have MySQL and Perl DBI working with no
password on the database, Minivend's makecat program will create a simple
demo running with the majority of the databases configured and running in
MySQL.

All you must do is answer 1 to Use MySQL while making the catalog.

To add MySQL to an existing catalog, configure the following in catalog.cfg:

Variable SOMESQL 1
Variable MYSQL 1
Variable SQLDSN dbi:mysql:database_name
Variable SQLUSER user
Variable SQLPASS password

In my experiences, a username and password MUST be defined if configuring
MySQL this way. Also watch your permissions on the database user.

The definitions for the tables are found in catroot/mysql

When you restart the minivend daemon, the default text files from
catroot/products will be imported into MySQL using the definitions. A new
file will be created in catroot/products for each database called
database_name.sql

To cause Minivend to re-import the text files, simply remove the
corresponding .sql and restart the daemon.

Be aware that changes to the databases aren't applied to the text files
until the databases are exported.

Good luck and let us know how it goes...

Cameron
