[ic] 'configure' cannot see /usr/local/bin/perl

I'm using RedHat9 and had to make a link to the replaced perl (Thanks Mike
for the kitchen sink version!).
Here is the command I used: ln -s /usr/bin/perl /usr/local/bin/perl

Works great now!

Try this:

PATH=/usr/local/bin:$PATH ./configure

That should just run configure with an altered path, it won't affect the 
path of any other programs.
