short answer: Yes.
Long answer: definately, I use this type of login/pwd scheme working off of the user database to control access to a number of different things. There are two ways that I 've implemented this. One involves changing the menu to display different buttons depending on the login status of the user, the other involves changing the product codes from "item" to "userid-item". Then select using "userid=item". when you do your searches.

We are using userdb to restrict access to certain pages and it is working
good.
We want to add extra functionality here, but need some advise.
We want to make 2 groups of users with different access possibilities. Each
group has a set of pages that can only be accessed by users of that group.
We don't want to use the ACL field because every combination of a page and
a user is an extra line in de userdb table.
Is it possible to add an extra field (something like a type of user) in the
userdb and check this field at login?
Or is there another solution that can be used?
